Documenting Your Real Estate Journey: Why Every Moment Matters

In the world of real estate, the mantra often heard is to leverage social media to build your business. Beyond Open Houses and tapping into your Sphere of Influence (SOI), social media remains a powerful tool. However, many agents fall into the trap of posting generic content: photos of houses, quick walkthroughs, or the ubiquitous "I'm so happy for my client" post. These often fail to tell the client’s story and merely highlight the agent’s closing success. This approach can also lead agents to seek out the "perfect" shot or, worse, avoid posting altogether because it seems too challenging.

As a real estate agent, I believe you should document everything happening in your world. Yes, everything! This includes your workouts, social experiences, and day-to-day business activities. While you don’t need to post everything immediately, these moments might turn into substantial content later on. Such posts showcase you as a human being—someone relatable. People want to do business with those they feel a connection to, so sharing shots of you on the golf course or running trails in your hometown can make a big difference.

Someone on social media is always looking at your content, and you never know when they might need a real estate agent in a town where they don't know anyone. Let’s say you’re touring a few homes each week (and yes, you should be doing this to raise your real estate IQ and gather content). You could create a post around your favorite home features, and a local builder might see and love it. They could reach out, and you might become their preferred agent!

There are countless opportunities in our everyday lives that can naturally generate content. Sometimes, we’re so focused on finding the "perfect shot" that we miss everything else. Documenting everything allows you to sift through and find what makes sense to post later.

In essence, don’t overthink it. Let your personality shine through your posts. Share your successes, challenges, and even mundane moments. Authenticity resonates with people, and it’s often in the ordinary moments that connections are forged. So, keep your phone handy, document your journey, and watch as those seemingly insignificant moments turn into unexpected opportunities.
